USDA “Guidelines” Forced on Parents

Just saw this story and, sadly, am not surprised…

The girl’s turkey and cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips, and apple juice did not meet U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines, according to the interpretation of the agent who was inspecting all lunch boxes in her More at Four classroom that day.

Yeah, that is a direct quote from the buffoon that inspected and rejected the kid’s sack lunch. While a turkey sandwich (due to the grains), potato chips, and apple “aka the sugar bomb!” juice are not exactly healthy, when you consider what 99% of school kids are eating for lunch, someone oughtta give that parent an award.

Usually the choices are square pizza, hot dog, or cheeseburger!

Regardless of one’s opinion (or the facts) on the actual food in the sack lunch…what happened to this kid/parent is just uncool.

That link that you posted is to Glenn Beck’s website. Beck is just about the nuttiest person on the planet, and he imagines government conspiracies everywhere. Beck’s version, and the headline, really stretched the facts. So a school lunch person added chicken nuggets to the meal from home, but nothing was confiscated, and the student was still free to eat her own lunch. People do make well-meaning mistakes, but the paranoia of Glenn Beck is just goofy.

Jim,

Thanks for the heads up – I didn’t realize it was Glenn Beck’s website. I feel Beck is a con-man, and his listeners/viewers are buffoons. Had I known it was his site I wouldn’t have posted it at all. Not that I would filter out the right-wing stuff solely because of the political slant, but because Beck himself is a known con-man, and apparently, if what you’re saying is true (and I have no reason to doubt it), then Beck is also a flat-out liar.

Readers – beware of the article linked to from this post. I’ll leave it as a reminder to myself not to trust sources so easily… : (
